WHAT WE STAND FOR: IDEALS AND GOALS
MOTTO: ALWAYS STRIVING TO ACHIEVE A HIGHER STANDARD OF EXCELLENCEThe motto of the Baritone Section: Always Striving to Achieve a Higher Standard of Excellence. But what does this mean? It means that members of the Baritone Section are constantly working to be better. We have high standards as a section: our expectations go beyond those of the band. And every year we have met and surpassed these standers. Some basic standards include:
-Being early to all events -Having all your necessary supplies, and a backup plan -Practicing your music at home -Attendance at all rehearsals and performances, and communicating with the director and section captain if you are unable to attend -Being engaged -Conducting yourself as an Adult and a professional in every aspect These standardss are the basic standards of the DGN "Trojan" Marching Band. The Baritone Section goes above and beyond these with our Motto, Six Ideals, and Yearly Goals. |
THE SIX IDEALS: DEFINING GREATNESS
The DGN Baritone section has six ideals (Loyalty, Leadership, Excellence, Welcoming, Intelligence and Integrity) that guide the section. They appear on our shield (Top left). The Ideals are:
LOYALTY: Loyalty is constantly working to better the Band and the Section. Loyalty is respecting those in authority, even if you disagree with them. Loyalty is staying in the game until the end, regardless of the score. However, Section members also have other loyalties; to their school work, families, houses of worship, personal ideals and beliefs, jobs, sports teams, as well as other clubs and activities. Baritones understand that true Loyalty lies not in rigid devotion, but in knowing what a person should need to be loyal to and when. Baritones are accepting of others who have different loyalties then themselves.
LEADERSHIP: Every Baritone is a leader. Leadership is leading others. Leadership is also being accepting of others leadership. Leaderships can also take the form of silent demonstration. Every Baritone is a leader when he or she leads by example, and is prepared and enthusiastic.Leadership is stepping up to get what needs to be done completed.
EXCELLENCE: A Baritone is excellence in every manor: they are precise marchers, team players, leaders, proficient musicians, wear the uniform with pride, respectful,
kind and thoughtful people. The Baritone Section is always striving for a higher sandard of excellence.
WELCOMING: Baritones are welcoming of new people and ideas. In 2011, the first impression then new principal Scott Kasik had of the band was when he visited a Baritone sectional. As a section we welcome new members, visitors and alums. Additionally, Baritones conduct themselves as professionals and adults. After all we have marched in parades with such notable figures as Barack Obama (then state senator), Chicago Mayor Daily, and Illinois governor Pat Quinn. Baritones are welcoming to new ideas.
INTELLIGENCE: Baritones are smart. We understand musical concepts and practice our music at a higher level. We use technology to our benefit. We know the history, And use it to better ourselves and the section.
INTEGRITY: We hold ourselves to a personal level of moral integrity. We hold to our promises. We are adults, and maintain a high level of maturity in our speech and actions. We take responsibility for our actions.
